On 30th March, 1915, the 3rd Royal Fusiliers battalion of 85 Brigade, 28th Division, moved into trenches at St Eloi, just to the south of Ypres. The artillery of both sides were active on 1st April and that evening the battalion were relieved but not before Ernest Haynes had been killed. |
